A project is underway to expand the street wells surrounding the park on the corner of North Calvert and East Madison Streets. The point is to beautify the corner, expanding the park to the street level to increase visibility with some place-making. The expanded tree wells will also absorb more rain water. The first phase of the project, enlarging the tree wells and removing the concrete, is complete. The first phase was made possible my the Mount Vernon Belvedere Association.
The second phase of the project involves planting perennial shrubs and flowers along with garden fencing around the tree wells. The second phase is not fully funded yet, but it should happen this summer. If you wish to make a donation towards this effort, you can make a donation through MVBA (https://mvba.wildapricot.org/Donations/). You can mark the donation for the “Children’s Park” and mention the “mitigation gardens” in the comment section. Thank You!
