The fountain at the Mt. Vernon Children’s Park is on for the summer! Special thanks to Susan Warren and every volunteer who helped to lead the efforts to repair the fountain over the past year and David March of D.G. March & Associates who did great work getting the fountain up and running just in time for warm weather. The fountain is child-activated – just hit the black rubber button on the smaller flower. Please help us keep the fountain running and the park clean by clearing leaf debris or other debris from the fountain drains if they are clogged and discouraging children from any playing with sand by the fountain.

We had a great time at our Spring Book Exchange on Sunday – thanks to everyone who volunteered and everyone who joined us!
We’re doing a quick evening cleaning at the park this Friday to clear out some of the weeds, trim the shrubbery, sweep up the leaf debris and clean the sandbox. We’ll do anything we can manage in an hour so stop by for any time that you can (even if it is only 15 minutes) from 6:00pm to 7:00pm on Friday evening.
RSVP on for the Clean-up on Facebook or comment below if you are able to attend!

Update on new projects at the Children’s Park
There are four major projects currently being pursued for the Children’s Park:
- Repairing the water play area. Repairs have been made and the spray park should be operational next summer.
- Replacement of the tree in the deep tree well. We have requested the removal of the broken tree on the upper level of the park. After it is removed, fill dirt will be added to raise the height of the dirt and a new tree will be planted.
- Repairing the wrought iron fence on the lower level. Our request for these repairs was placed in June. Recreation and Parks is handling these repairs. They have a contractor lined up and they tell us they are now “waiting for approval” to spend the funds.
- Two grant applications are being filed to fund a new piece of equipment that will suit 2-5 year olds. The hedge maze will be fully removed and this equipment will take its place. New surface covering will be installed under the new equipment.
If you are interested in learning more about these projects, please contact Susan Warren at sbwarren@hotmail.com.
