The splash pad has been turned on for the season. Thanks to the fundraising efforts and the dedication of a knowledgeable volunteer, Steve Johnson, the fountain again operates as it was originally intended. To activate the short cycle, simply place … Continue reading
The bulbs our Hopkins volunteers planted in the fall are starting to bloom all over the park. Come see Spring in action!
Thanks to MVBA, the bulbs in the Park’s four light poles have been replaced and are brightening up the corner once again! Although the park is closed at dusk, this really makes a huge difference on the 200 East block … Continue reading
The Mount Vernon Children’s Park was lucky enough to be a host site for Johns Hopkins President’s Day of Service, on 9/23. We had a great group of volunteers and they helped us accomplish a lot on our “to do” … Continue reading
The Park will be closed for maintenance and upkeep starting on Friday, August 4th, 2017. Some of the work being done is painting/repairing the fence and pruning the trees. It is unclear how long the work will take, but we’ll post updates as we get them. Sorry for the inconvenience.
New Equipment was installed today by Playground Specialist Inc. The new equipment includes a short slide more appropriate for younger children, and a rock climbing feature that should be fun for all. As a part of the installation, new sections … Continue reading
The fountain at the Mt. Vernon Children’s Park is on for the summer! Special thanks to Susan Warren and every volunteer who helped to lead the efforts to repair the fountain over the past year and David March of D.G. March & Associates who did great work getting the fountain up and running just in time for warm weather. The fountain is child-activated – just hit the black rubber button on the smaller flower. Please help us keep the fountain running and the park clean by clearing leaf debris or other debris from the fountain drains if they are clogged and discouraging children from any playing with sand by the fountain.
There are four major projects currently being pursued for the Children’s Park:
- Repairing the water play area. Repairs have been made and the spray park should be operational next summer.
- Replacement of the tree in the deep tree well. We have requested the removal of the broken tree on the upper level of the park. After it is removed, fill dirt will be added to raise the height of the dirt and a new tree will be planted.
- Repairing the wrought iron fence on the lower level. Our request for these repairs was placed in June. Recreation and Parks is handling these repairs. They have a contractor lined up and they tell us they are now “waiting for approval” to spend the funds.
- Two grant applications are being filed to fund a new piece of equipment that will suit 2-5 year olds. The hedge maze will be fully removed and this equipment will take its place. New surface covering will be installed under the new equipment.
