The splash pad is now officially on for the rest of the summer! We want to give our immense thanks to Steve Johnson for repairing the leak and in general, for all the hard work he has put in getting the fountain to work again these past few years.
In order to use the splash pad, simply place your hand on the center of the flower censor on the splash pad. The water will cycle for a few minutes and then shut off. Simply touch the sensor again to restart. Please note, the water will automatically shut off at 8pm daily.
Also, while using the park, please remind children to keep the sand in the sandbox. If too much sand gets onto the splash pad, this can ruin the fountain heads.
Thank you, and enjoy the water play and the park this summer!
Join us for our June park meet-up this Friday, June 17, 2016! The meet-up will go from 5:30pm until the park closes. Come on by and meet and socialize with other children and families from the neighborhood!
The Friends of Mt. Vernon Children’s Park have big news to share! This last winter, we applied for the Johns Hopkins Neighborhood Fund Grant and found out earlier this month that we were one of the recipients! With the grant funds that we will receive, we will be adding new toddler equipment to the park. While we are still working out details of what will be added, work will begin in the next few months, with completion of the work by June of 2017.
A big thank you to all the volunteers who came out this weekend for our spring clean-up event! We cleaned-up the sandbox, spread out fresh mulch, pulled weeds, picked up trash, and pruned the trees and bushes to prepare the park for the spring and summer seasons.
Our next event will be the Spring Planting event, where we will add some new greenery to the park for everyone’s enjoyment. The event will be Saturday, April 16 at 9am. We welcome anyone who would like to participate!
It’s almost spring and the Friends of Mount Vernon Children’s Park are looking for volunteers to help us with our upcoming clean up on the Children’s Park at 801 N. Calvert Street! On Saturday, March 19 at 9am, we’ll be gathering at the park to get the park and plants ready for warmer weather. This will include pruning trees and bushes, picking up trash, sweeping up sand, weeding, spreading mulch, and touching up the paint on the fence around the park.
We’ll be providing the clean-up supplies as well as donuts and coffee to any volunteers. Please feel free to bring your kids, too!
Please comment here if you are interested or send an email to mountvernonchildrenspark@gmail.com to help us with a head count. We appreciate any help! Thanks!
